'Layers of Orkney' (as debuted at the Kirkwall exhibition) A much more earthy palette has bloomed reflecting the colours of Orkney. I have visually described all the things that have impressed and surprised me about this place. Aurora Borealis, Viking heritage, Neolithic sites and mark making, Selkies, the Westray Wifey, Standing Stones, the Sea, the Italian Chapel and the Ogham (meaning 'a blessing on the Soul')
My interpretation of the most popular view of ‘The old man of Hoy’
So many Standing Stones in Orkney, so inspirational for textures of ancient history
Stromness suits a faded filter. Oldy, Worldy and magical!
Not many trees in Orkney but we have a few living and passed in our garden. Textures and colours of wood inspire.
Doodles of colour, shape and texture
Inspired by Spring and making a bee meadow garden
This painting is a reworking of ‘Mother Earth’. It is a symbolic, abstract representation of the loss of feminine fertility either through age, illness or genetics. It is a ‘loss’ to be grieved. However there is always beauty in the feminine. Females together, mourning the loss.
Gesso, soft pastel, acrylic and tissue on reclaimed board and frame £490
Gesso & Montage on Canvas 54” x 18”
I wanted to capture the beauty of Loch Lomond by moonlight after driving along the lochside and seeing the amazing reflections on the water. Rather than painting one realistic scene I wanted to evoke the atmosphere of different areas of the Loch.
'Dear Green Place' is an affectionate name for Glasgow. A slightly different focus celebrating the city. Inspired by Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts styles. The montage at the bottom is my contemporary addition.

Started with a fantasy doodle and turned into a fantasy watercolour exercise which was soothing and serene to create.

Tribute to Impressionists
A montage I made in 1998 as my tribute to the inspiration the Impressionists have had on my artistic practice.
I kept this photo for years and wanted to immortalise it after his passing in 2016. A truly talented actor and lovely human being.
